The January transfer window that produced expenditure of £175 million and completed the seasons total spend to a whopping £1 billion, has provided a varying degree of success for the Barclays Premier League clubs. From one extreme of causing Aston Villa manager, Remi Garde, to be given ‘les Miserables’, seeing him unable to reverse the tradition and encourage rats to board a sinking ship. To a justifiably anxious Newcastle United, teetering on the edge of relegation, riskily spending a considerable sum of £29 million in an effort to lift them to safety. There is however one noticeable theme within the window, a large number of players have made moves that will inevitably see them shifting from part-time cameos to taking the centre stage in the top flight. Whether that be from a lateral switch, national league upgrade or immigration from overseas a number of players have decided to take career salvaging moves.
